Export of Gherkin - Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) Signing of Agreement for Contract Farming with Gherkin Exporter and FPOs in Tumkuru District
NABARD, Karnataka Regional Office and KAPPEC-GoK jointly are taking the initiative in making the necessary arrangements for supporting the FPOs in exporting Gherkins grown by the shareholders of Farmer Producer organisations (FPOs) in Tumakuru District.
As a pilot project an agreement between Gherkin Exporter i.e., M/s Vishaal Natural Food Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore and three FPOs promoted by NGO- MOTHER and supported by NABARD viz., Madakari Souharda FPO & Nidagal FPO from Pavagada and Salughatte FPO from Sira Taluks has entered into for Contract farming by signing of Agreement on 06 November 2021 at Sira.
Gherkin is 100% export crop which is identified by the GoI & GoK under Agriculture Export Policy (AEP). Gherkin crop is being grown in the Tumakuru District on wider scale and FPOs are producing good quality of crop. In the District nearly 7500 to 8000 acres is covered presently.
By this arrangement it is expected that the farmers will be able to augment their income in the coming months. Mr.Madhusudhan expressed that he hoped FPOs would learn from this experience and diversify into other vegetables and earn profitable income.
To have a learning from the above project, other FPOs Kaayakalpa, Suvarnamukhi and Animal Husbandry FPOs joined the meeting.
